A rundown of some of the top e-learning trends for 2022 and 2023 based on our conversations with learning and development professionals.

After a two-year absence enforced by Covid-19, the Learning Technologies event was back in London for 2022. We were in attendance as exhibitors, speakers and visitors.

Members of our team had conversations with people from every facet of the e-learning industry. We asked each of them to give their feedback on hot topics and trends that were up for discussion, and we’re sharing the prevailing trends with you now.

Let’s explore the top e-learning trends for 2022 and 2023 based on the conversations our team had.

Frictionless learning

People are our most valuable asset and we need to create conditions in which they can do their best work. That’s why many organisations are seeking to create a frictionless learning experience for them. Unified solutions for HR, learning and talent management to simplify the entire process of personal development and growth will help to deliver this.

Sharing in-house knowledge

Capturing knowledge and experience that is already within the organisation so that it can be easily shared across a workforce to help learners build their skills and confidence to take on new challenges and build new skills.

Learning for the individual

Ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to reach their potential, aided by great learning experiences that are tailored to their strengths and weaknesses, ambitions and their role within your wider organisational goals. Personalised learning is one of the biggest e-learning trends at the moment.

Less is more

Keeping it simple is a definite trend, with ease of access a key topic of discussions. People have had enough of too many choices clouding judgements and complicating learning experiences.

Selling learning content

In a time of increased remote working and remote learning, many people are looking for better ways of incorporating e-commerce functionality into their LMS so that they can sell learning content. We’ve looked at some of the options for doing this in this blog post.

Price isn’t everything

After unshackling from expensive long-term e-learning software licenses, many organisations joyously charged to the lowest possible price point. The current trend seems to be for a bounce in the opposite direction and an acceptance that rock-bottom prices don’t count for much if you’re not getting the features, functionality and support you need for your platform.

LMS for career development

We spoke about the move from mandatory training to meaningful learning at Learning Technologies. That was definitely a wider trend, with many people keen to move their learning management system from a place people go to fulfil obligations to somewhere they can meaningfully progress their career. We discussed that in more detail here.
