Totara 16: new features, integrations and reasons to upgrade

Totara 16 is here. Let’s look at some of the new developments in the latest version of Talent Experience Platform (TXP)

The new version of Totara TXP, Totara 16, is now available. It comes with a raft of new features to help your organisation to get even more from its learning platform.

Let’s take a look at some of the improved functionality you’ll have access to when you upgrade to Totara 16.

LinkedIn Learning integration

Totara 16 is fully integrated with LinkedIn Learning. That means your learners will have full access to LinkedIn’s vast array of courses and content. Learner progress and completion data are automatically pulled into Totara Learn to inform your reporting.

Course due dates and notifications

The new course due date setting lets you send notifications to an individual learner or their manager as a reminder that a course needs to be completed. The notification can be set to a relative date, such as three weeks after being assigned the course, or a fixed date, such as 30 November. That means it’s a useful feature for encouraging a steady flow of learning and maintaining compliance levels.

It’s part of a wider set of course enrollment, course completion and activity completion notifications that are designed to boost learner engagement.

Centralised notifications

Totara 16 brings greater control over LMS-wide notifications. This is handled in a new centralised area for centralised notifications. This included notifications relating to: 

• Seminars (which we’ll discuss in more detail below)
• Activities
• Courses
• Programs
• Certifications 
• Workspaces 
• LinkedIn Learning

Centralised notifications can be configured to be sent by email or in-app notifications, or added to the learner’s tasks or alerts.

Some centralised notifications can be sent to managers as well as learners. There is also the option for new customised notifications, which are edited using the Totara Weka editor.

Improved seminar notifications

Seminar notifications now support the existing ‘legacy’ way of doing them and the new centralised notifications. Ad-hoc messages can still be sent at the seminar activity level

Multi-language notifications

Reach each of your learners in their preferred language using Totara 16’s multi-language notifications. Multilingual notifications can now be created via the Totara Weka editor if you enable the multilingual content filter and install the relevant language packs.

Smarter Totara Engage workspace membership

Both set and dynamic audiences can now be assigned to Totara Engage workspaces, which makes it easier to keep your learners in the loop when it comes to sharing and collaborating, and having access to the right resources.
