Reflecting on a year-long marketing internship at Synergy Learning

We love the fresh energy, creativity and talent that our internship programme brings to Synergy Learning.

These initially short-term placements often have a lasting impact on 1Team — many of the interns we’ve had with us over the years are still with us today.

One of our recent interns, Aurelia Sakwinska, just wrapped up an incredible internship with us. We were curious to know what a year helping with all things marketing at Synergy Learning was like for her.

Aurelia joined us from Ulster University, where she’s currently studying marketing and gearing up for her final year. Originally from Poland, she’s got a passion for music, is a self-confessed foodie and has an infectious enthusiasm that made her an excellent fit here from day one.

First impressions of Synergy Learning

It’s important for us that everyone feels like they belong from day one, especially in a remote-first setting. We asked Aurelia to be honest about her first impressions of Synergy Learning. 

“At first I was intimidated as I had never worked in a corporate setting,” she said. “But I quickly found out just how welcoming and friendly everyone is in 1Team. I’m very lucky to have worked in such a positive and welcoming environment.”

A typical day for Aurelia as a Marketing Intern involved working closely with the Content Marketing Manager on social media, email marketing and setting up landing pages for downloadable content. She also worked closely with our Lead Marketing Manager on tasks such as data gathering, search engine optimisation and implementing website layout changes. 

Aurelia has also been a key member of Synergy Learning’s Culture Club, working with the People Circle on internal marketing initiatives.

“One of my favourite projects was designing an updated newsletter template for our subscribers,” Aurelia said. “It was so rewarding to see it actually being used. I also loved seeing the analytics and how people were engaging with the efforts we put in – it made all the behind-the-scenes work feel worth it.”

It’s safe to say she’s now got plenty of hands-on experience with tools and techniques that will serve her well in her future marketing career.

Developing skills for the future

Aurelia found she had a lot to learn at first, getting to grips with an array of marketing tools including HubSpot, Google Analytics and video editing software. However, by the end of her internship, she was navigating the tools and software like a pro. She said: “I’ve gained a lot of technical skills that I know will really help me in my future career.”

Standout moments for Aurelia during her time here were our in-person All Hands meetings – our chance to bring the whole team together, celebrate wins, connect with our colleagues and innovate collectively. She said: “The All Hands events were so memorable! It felt so rewarding to be connected with so many friendly and dedicated people.”

What’s next for Aurelia?

With one more year of university ahead, Aurelia’s got her eyes set on a role in B2C marketing to explore another side of the marketing industry. We’re certain she’ll thrive wherever she goes.

For anyone thinking of joining one of our internship programmes in future, Aurelia’s advice is this: “Come prepared and do your research. Learning technologies and SaaS can be a lot to learn at first, but it’ll really help to understand some of the basics before you start.”
