Follow the steps we take to make sure your learners get the best possible LMS user experience when they use your site.

LMS user experience is about how people feel when they use your learning management system. By its very nature, learning can prompt a range of different emotions. Our role is to ensure that their experience of accessing, navigating and engaging with your learning is a positive one. So, how do we go about that?

Listening to you

We will start the process by listening to you and, more often than not, you will have already started it by listening to your learners. If you’ve asked the right LMS user experience survey questions and have built your knowledge of current LMS pain points, you will be approaching us with a good idea of what you want from your LMS and some features that are important to you.

We’ll explore these things together, building user personas of the people who use your LMS, fleshing out potential features and starting to build a user journey around your LMS.

Challenging you

The next stage is to ask the crucial question: why do you want this? Why do you want this feature or piece of functionality? We need to make sure that the specification for the project serves the purpose of the LMS, serves to enhance the user experience and ultimately serves your learners. That will ideally involve…

Engaging with your learners

One of the most valuable steps in improving LMS user experience is to put real users in real-life scenarios and see what happens. Ideally, we’ll create a focus group that represents a cross-section of your organisation and its different types of LMS users. We’ll carry out A/B testing, exposing learners to particular situations and finding out what they expect to happen.

We want to know what they expect to see on a navigation button on your LMS, and what they think will happen when they click it. We want to be able to see how pain points are arising and what’s blocking learners on their journey around the site. We want to be able to talk to them and understand how they use the LMS.

Stripping back your LMS

Moodle LMS and Totara Learn are both feature-packed applications and can be overwhelming in that regard. You won’t need all of those features. Once we’ve established how your LMS will be used, we can strip out unneeded functionality to create a cleaner user interface, a clearer user journey and a better user experience.

Making your LMS accessible to all learners

Accessibility is a key aspect of our user experience considerations. After all there’s no point providing an incredible user experience to just some of your learners. We use visual reviews and automated tools to improve LMS accessibility. We also write code to comply with accessibility standards and will work with you to help your LMS achieve any specific accessibility standards or accreditation you want to meet.

Collaborating and QA-ing

Your LMS user experience will come together as a collaborative process. Yes, between you, your learners and us, but also internally within our team. Visual-focused and logic-driven members of our team will review each other’s work to make sure every aspect of the site is performing to its full potential in every aspect. As with all parts of your LMS, the user experience will be subjected to a rigorous quality assurance process to ensure it’s performing as it should be. That way we can be certain that your learners are going to get the user experience we want for them from your LMS.
